Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore is a Shooter-Soldier who has voluntarily retired to serve the nation as a politician. His early years were spent in serving the military in Jammu and &Kashmir (J&K), living the ethos of a soldier’s soldier.

Rathore was born in Jaisalmer (Rajasthan) as his Maternal grandfather was posted there. He belongs to a Rajput family based in Bikaner.

Few years later, he picked up a different gun to represent the nation in sports. His commitment was to put the national flag of India to fame. One of his life’s most proud moments was to hold the Indian flag in front of the whole world. For him, one mission was accomplished ;Independent India had finally got its first silver medal at the Athens Olympics in 2004. Ever-since then he carried on his undertaking, represented India in sports and won 25 International Medals at various championships for Double Trap shooting.

He believes that people have their own talents and callings and that he is an achiever because he is willing to give up everything for the task assigned. His reason to join politics was to bring about a change in the system we all live in. He wishes that the youth should be able to choose the profession he/she wants to be in. He is a strong advocate that people of our country should excel in their own chosen fields and contribute in their own special way.

On 10 September 2013, Rathore joined Bharatiya Janata Party after taking premature retirement from the Indian Army. He was elected as a MP in the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Jaipur Rural constituency. On 9 November 2014, he was sworn-in as the Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting, under the Narendra Modi government.
