Teej festival in Chandigarh, India is celebrated with fun and frolic. It is a traditional festivity in which women participate enthusiastically. Teej festival falls in the first week of August. It is basically the festival of monsoon. On Chandigarh Teej festival, Rock garden serves as the festive venue, where different cultural programs take place. On this festive occasion, women adorn their hands with beautiful Mehndi designs. They buy colorful bangles and wear their special clothing. Various dance performances are held on this day. Giant wings are the main highlight of the festivity of Teej.
he two days Teej festival kicked-off with great zeal in the Shivalik Garden, Manimajra on Saturday. The colourful function, organized by the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation on Saturday inaugurated by Prerna Puri, Secretary IT and Additional Secretary, Home, UT Chandigarh in presence of city mayor Subhash Chawla, area councillor Gurcharan Dass Kalaa and other officials and councilor.
The function was marked with Punjabi, Haryanvi, Rajasthani, Himachali and Uttaranchali folk dances, songs, fusion of Giddha and Bhangra and Teeian de Geet by famous artists of various states. Prerna Puri stressed upon the necessity to perpetuate cultural values among the masses especially in younger generation. She also enlightened the gathering about the social, religious and historical significance of the Teej Festival.
While addressing the gathering Subhash Chawla, Mayor said that Municipal Corporation Chandigarh will make this Mela as an annual feature like Rose Festival and an agenda regarding this decision will be brought in the next general house meeting of MC. He said that people of Chandigarh should know about their rich culture and we the Municipal Corporation are making this effort to gather the precious traditional festivals like Teej.
