The Tihar Festival is celebrated in the dark half of the Kartik month that is in the month of October and November according to the English calendar. It is an important carnival of Sikkim which is also known as the fiesta of lights. It is a festival celebrated by the Hindus. This festival can also be referred to as a synonym of the festival of Diwali. On this festival people light lamps to get rid of the darkness not only of the nature but also of their souls.
On this day people worship Goddess Lakshmi. This festival in Sikkim is celebrated in two parts. The first being Kak Tihar. On this day crows are fed with grains and if some are caught they are garlanded. The second part is known as Kukkor Tihar. On this festival dogs are given garlands. On the third and fourth day cows and bullocks are prayed to. the final day the brothers are done tilaks of by their sisters and they for their long lives.
